What happened
A new Freightliner recall covers trucks with the Cummins L9 diesel engine. Land Line reported it on Oct. 19, 2026. The trucks on the list are:
- 2023 Freightliner 108SD
- 2022-2025 Freightliner Business Class M2
- Some Freightliner Custom Chassis (FCCC) models
The problem is a remote fuel filter hose. It can come loose from its fitting. If that happens, fuel can leak, and that raises the risk of a fire. The engine can also stall, and that raises the risk of a crash.
The defect is believed to affect about 3% of the trucks in the recall. No injuries have been reported.
Cummins will replace the fuel hoses for free. Owner letters should go out around Nov. 20. The NHTSA recall number is 26V660. The Daimler number is F1042.
What it means for owner-operators
An engine that dies in traffic is a real danger. So is diesel dripping near a hot engine. You do not want to find out on the highway that your truck is one of the 3%.
The M2 is one of the most common medium-duty trucks on the road. Box trucks, flatbeds, utility trucks and many small fleets run them. If you run one with an L9, this is about you.
There are warning signs. Watch for a fuel leak, a fuel smell, or a warning light with the low fuel pressure fault code FC559.
An open safety recall is also a business problem. It is much better to fix it before a breakdown or a crash than to explain it after.
What to do next
- Look up your VIN at NHTSA.gov today. You do not have to wait for the letter.
- If your truck is on the list, call Daimler Truck customer service at 800-547-0712 or Cummins at 800-286-6467.
- Until it is fixed, check under the truck for wet spots and sniff for diesel at every pre-trip.
- If you see code FC559, smell fuel or see a leak, pull over in a safe place and get it checked.
- Keep the repair receipt with your truck records.
