What happened
A Mack Volvo truck recall covers 4,338 trucks in three separate recalls. The Trucker reported it on Oct. 5, 2026.
The most serious one is about brakes on tanker trucks:
- Mack recall SC0500: 850 trucks. Models are 2026-2027 Anthem AN (4) and Pioneer PR (4) with the tanker package.
- Volvo recall RVXX2610: 392 trucks. Models are 2025-2027 VNL (4) and 2026-2027 VNR (4) with the tanker package.
On these trucks, the system can calculate the axle load wrong. That may reduce braking when you pull a smoothbore tanker trailer. A smoothbore tank has no walls inside, so the liquid moves more. The fix is a software update that turns off dynamic trailer braking.
The third recall is Mack SC0501: 3,096 trucks, 2026-2027 Anthem AN (4) and 2025-2027 Pioneer PR (4). The intake and grille bezels may come loose. Dealers will inspect, replace parts and add cable ties.
What it means for owner-operators
Weaker brakes with a liquid load are a real danger. The load surges forward when you stop. Every foot of stopping distance counts.
A loose part falling off on the highway is also a danger to the cars behind you.
The good news: all repairs are free. Owner letters go out Nov. 27, 2026 for the brake recalls and Nov. 30 for the grille recall. You do not have to wait for the letter to check.
Open recalls also matter for your business. An open safety recall is something to fix before a crash, not after.
What to do next
- Look up your VIN at NHTSA.gov today.
- If your truck is on the list, call your dealer. Mack: 1-800-866-1177. Volvo: 800-528-6586.
- If you pull smoothbore tankers, ask the dealer when the software fix is ready and plan the visit.
- Until it is fixed, leave extra following distance and brake early.
- Keep the repair receipt with your truck records.
